One thing about living on an island with the same 12 or so people for friends is that you get to know them pretty damn well. They see you when you first wake up, when you are sick as a dog, when you are happy, sad, pissed off- you name it. This brings about an almost family-like comfort with them. One great example is how it doesn't seem odd to let you friends go to your house and even hang out there while you are not home.
Yesterday I held a potluck dinner at my place for all the teachers, and we had a ton of food leftover. As such, different friends have been wandering over to make lunch and dinner for themselves. One lovely lady even made some lunch for herself then did all my dishes, score! (Thanks Shan ;) The open house also goes for dogs. Some of the best recent memories are of us teachers playing scrabble, eating homemade cookies and watching 5 dogs tear around my living room playing together. Today it made me smile as two friends were out on my lawn having a yard sale of all our stuff together and two were inside making lunch. This kind of open I will miss these awesome peeps!
